The NewAGLAE Beamline is a fully automated beamline extracted in the air, enabling to study any types of objects without constraint of size or conservation state. It can perform PIXE, PIGE, RBS and IBIL mappings simultaneously or NRA using a different setup.
The NewAGLAE Beamline is a fully automated beamline for around-the-clock operation. The beam of AGLAE is extracted in the air, enabling to study any types of objects without constraint of size or conservation state. It can perform PIXE, PIGE, RBS and IBIL measurements simultaneously or NRA using a different setup. It uses a sensitive multi-detector fit for the analysis of fragile materials such as paint layers composed with by inorganic pigments and organic binders and a chemical imaging system for all techniques at the micrometric scale. Inorganic materials (stones, glass, ceramics, metals…) can be safely studied to search for: • Provenance and trade routes of materials (minerals, metals, etc.). • Manufacturing recipes and production facilities centres (glass, ceramics, metals, etc.). • Manufacturing processes and history of techniques (sign of manufacturing parameters and/or steps of production). • Degradation processes. • Impact of new restoration techniques on materials (glass, ceramics, metals, etc.). The Euphrosyne for AGLAE digital platform enables FIXLAB users to remotely prepare experiments, complete radiation protection training requirements, manage beamtime activities, and access dedicated software tools for the visualization, processing and interpretation of AGLAE analytical data. During the analytical campaign, data and metadata generated by AGLAE are progressively integrated into the Euphrosyne Catalogue of AGLAE Data. Following quality control and, when applicable, an embargo period, metadata and selected datasets are published through the catalogue, enabling their discovery, access, citation and reuse in accordance with FAIR data principles. Integrated workflow in a nutshell: Euphrosyne for AGLAE (DIGILAB service compulsory with an AGLAE FIXLAB proposal to prepare the run) → AGLAE FIXLAB (experiment) → Euphrosyne for AGLAE (data processing and production) → Euphrosyne Catalogue of AGLAE Data (metadata curation, embargo management, publication, discovery and FAIR reuse of datasets). WARNING: The NewAGLAE Facility will close for work from June to December 2026. Thereby, proposals deposited in the 2nd call for Access to E-RIHS ERIC from 30 January to 31 March 2026 will only be conducted starting from January 2027.
IBA analyses are surface analyses thus implying limitations in terms of analysis depth (no more than 100µm) and in terms of surface alteration. Actually, the techniques might be highly affected by surface aleration and cleanliness.
